The Employee Assistance Professionals Association (EAPA Ireland) is the professional body that represents the interests of professionals concerned with employee assistance, psychological health and well being in Ireland. Amongst its members of purchasers, providers, counsellors, consultants, trainers and other related specialists there is an accumulated wealth of experience.

Membership Options

Organisational Membership
Companies wishing to be affiliated with EAPA and will entitle 3 designated people to avail of professional membership privileges such as reduced fees at training events, voting rights at AGM and standing for election for the executive committee.

Professional Members
An individual currently engaged in employee assistance professional activities who has a minimum of 2 years experience in the field with at least 1 year being in the year prior to membership application.  Professional Members must have appropriate training in the area of  employee assistance and be in regular supervision. They may vote and hold office in EAPA at the chapter, branch, and international levels.

Associate Membership
An individual who is associated with or interested in the field of employee assistance, for example; an affiliate provider, vendor, government official, human resources professional, or other individual not directly engaged in an EA role. Associate Members may vote and hold office (other than president) at the chapter level, but may not vote or hold office at the international level.

Student Membership
Category for individuals who are currently enrolled in an EAP programme. Students must submit evidence of their student status annually, and Student Members may not vote or hold office at the chapter, branch, or international level.

EAPA Ireland Membership Levels Explained

Organisational Membership

This category is open to organisations operating in the field of Employee Assistance. Under this membership, the company can designate one employee who will have voting rights and office holding privileges associated with either the individual professional or associate membership.

Professional/Accredited Membership

This category refers to people working in the field of Employee Assistance and is

broken into categories:

  • Internal EAP Providers – Those employed as EAP providers and involved in internal employee assistance to the employees eg. Government Departments, An Post. You must:
    • Be in supervision appropriate to the service they provide.
    • Have a 3rd level qualification /or equivalent and specific to Employee Assistance/ Hold the Certified Employee Assistance Professional award (CEAP).
    • Have a minimum of 2 years experience in the field with at least 1 year being in the year prior to membership application.
  • Counsellor / Counselling Psychologist / Trainer / Executive Coach – you must
    • Be a current member of an appropriate professional body, eg. IACP, ICP, IAHIP, PsSI
    • Be in supervision appropriate to the service you provide.
    • Have training specific to Employee assistance work.
    • Be employed either as a counsellor or a trainer by an EAP provider

Professional and Accredited Practitioners shall have full voting rights and

are eligible to seek election to all positions within the Branch.

Associate Membership

This category refers to those working to provide other support such as alcohol and drug services, financial and helpline services that are relevant to the workplace.

Student Membership

This category is open to anyone studying in an area relevant to the field of Employee Assistance who wishes to learn more about the practice of EAPs before moving to a higher membership grade. Student Members may not hold office in the Branch and have no voting rights.
